Q: I have a relatively new HP desktop with Windows 10. I'm not terribly computer savvy and am leery about downloading the latest Windows 10 update. Can I safely download the new version of Windows 10 without it impacting me too severely? A: My first rule of thumb when it comes to operating systems is that it is always best to run the latest, greatest version. For the most part, this tends to be the most secure and stable version available and has the best chance of keeping your computer operating well and also preventing it from being exploited by any vulnerabilities that might have been discovered. The developers of the various operating systems are constantly updating and tweaking their product in response to new threats and system bugs. That being said, any update like this has a risk of going poorly. Things can and do go wrong. As your system is relatively new and this is a Windows 10 to Windows 10 update from a previous version of the operating system, I would say the risk is very low. Still, I recommend that you have backups of any important data just in case. Keeping your data backed up is a good idea, regardless of whether you are updating your system or not as other things can go wrong without warning.
