Abstract

The dynamic of global development in the 21st Century differs from the historically unidirectional “North to South” flow of capital, technology, and models of development. Rising economies from the Global South, most prominently China, India, Russia, Brazil and South Africa, have become major sources of foreign direct investment, international aid and loans, and technological and managerial know-how, especially in many developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. South-South development poses new questions and possibilities for the scholarly and policy communities. This conference seeks to explore major processes and institutions related to capital, management, industrial relations, labor politics, and state policies constituting and shaping this monumental transformation.
