Abstract

Hot plasmas are dominating the X-ray emission of supernova remnants, the hot interstellar medium in galaxies, galactic halos and winds and the intra-cluster medium in clusters of galaxies. XMM-Newton and Chandra have accumulated rich resources of emission line spectra with medium and high spectral resolution. In the next years XARM and later Athena will build on this heritage. Plasma codes are essential for the modelling of X-ray spectra. The workshop aims to summarise the current understanding of the X-ray plasma emission, its astrophysical implications and to foster cooperation between the participants. The overarching scheme of the workshop is the common astrophysics, the modelling of the X-ray emission, and the problems with data reduction of extended sources.
