Abstract

We are excited to announce the Second EAGE Workshop on Deepwater Exploration in Mexico: Knowledge transfer and collaboration from shelf to deepwater to be held in Cancun Mexico on 7-9 May 2019. Following the success of our first workshop, the event will provide an exceptional opportunity for all stakeholders, including Mexican regulatory authorities, government organizations, research institutes, NOCs, IOCs, independent operators, rig and service companies, consultants, professional associations, and academia, to continue the dialogue addressing the geological and operational risks of offshore exploration and production as well as discussing new initiatives and solutions. We feel the time is right to meet again in a workshop setting to exchange ideas and focus on addressing the common challenges facing the industry. We anticipate that evaluation of the science and technology needed to characterize the subsurface of the southern Gulf of Mexico basin will be a major feature of the workshop. Sharing and transferring knowledge on different play fairways, structural settings, petroleum systems, reservoir distributions and rock quality is vital if the full hydrocarbon potential of the prolific Mexican offshore basins is to be successfully exploited. Similarly, sharing and applying operational experience and lessons from the northern Gulf of Mexico and exchanging ideas that can foster safe and efficient execution of exploration and development programmes, de-risk drilling hazards and optimize well design will form key elements of the agenda.
