Abstract

The 2019 Gordon Research Conference on Bioenergetics is the premier venue for the presentation of cutting-edge advancements concerning the molecular processes of oxidative energy conversion in biological systems. These complexes are central to many aspects of human health and disease, and are being exploited as possible drug targets for specific pathogens. This meeting provides the ideal platform for early career scientists and established leaders in this research area to discuss in depth their most recent results. The meeting will promote integration of a variety of approaches to examine the structures, mechanisms, and regulation of these complexes including structure determination methods, single-molecule studies, and molecular dynamics simulations. New developments in understanding the families of ion translocating rotary molecular motors including the F-ATP synthase, A-ATP synthase, and V-ATPase families will be one focus. Another major focus will concern the families of protein complexes responsible for electron transfer and proton pumping in bioenergetics. The scope of the meeting will extend to related oxidation-reduction complexes, contributions to oxidative stress, and the essential support of diverse cellular metabolic pathways.
