Abstract

This meeting is considered to be the leading epithelial biology Gordon conference. The goal of this meeting entitled “Innovative Molecular, Cellular and System Approaches in Basic and Translational Epithelial Biology” is to bring together up and coming scientists as well as eminent speakers at the forefront of epithelial development, stem cell biology, cell biology, pathology and therapy with leaders in areas such as immunity, tissue sensing, tissue cross-talk, evolution, gene expression regulation and promising novel technologies to drive therapy. The presentation of the latest developments in these different fields of expertise will allow not only intense formal and informal interactions at the interphase of these different disciplines but also promote broad discussion and multiple opportunities to discover synergies as well as potential novel therapeutic prospects to advance the field as a whole. We think the excellence of the science is rooted into the diversity with respect to topic, location and gender. The meeting has a strong dedication to promote young and upcoming scientists in this broad field and to this end 1/3 of the talks will be selected from submitted abstracts. This also will bring forward late breaking innovative research and developments in the field. The meeting will also provide ample opportunity for discussion not only after each talk but also at the posters with the explicit goal to further intense discussion with early career scientists and established leaders in the field. Finally, a power hour on the first day of the conference will catalyze important discussions for ways to recognize and tackle discriminations in science.
