Abstract

The Gordon Research Seminar on Organellar Channels and Transporters is a unique forum that enables the brightest young scientists, including graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education, to present and exchange new data and cutting-edge ideas in a highly-motivating and hospitable environment. This seminar aims to bring together scientists from the animal and plant fields, with similar challenges and interests, to promote transfer of knowledge between the different communities. The focus of this meeting is on the most recent progress in new technologies in understanding the dynamics and physiology of organellar ion channels and transporters. The discussion topics include, but are not limited to, high-resolution structures of intracellular ion channels/ transporters, optical imaging of organellar inter-communications, and their applications in basic research, drug design, and preclinical studies. The meeting program will begin with an inspiring keynote lecture followed by presentation sessions from young researchers to discuss important contributions to these fields. Additionally, a career panel on the second day of the meeting will provide an excellent platform for young scientists to discuss key topics for jump-starting their careers, extending from scientific independence and grant applications to time management strategies (work and personal). GRS participants are highly encouraged to attend the Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Organellar Channels and Transporters that will take place immediately following the GRS.
