Abstract

Angiogenesis has been the driving force in the field of vascular biology and medicine for several decades. Early research focused on molecular mechanisms and translational strategies to therapeutically interfere with sprouting angiogenesis. Today, angiogenesis research is again spearheading the field by exploiting the latest technological advances in single cell technology, genome-wide big data systems biology, as well as novel imaging and genetic engineering strategies. These recent developments enable groundbreaking mechanistic discoveries and pave the way towards novel angiotargeted therapies to advance regenerative medicine and to combat chronic and critical life-threatening diseases. At the 2019 Angiogenesis Gordon Conference, the key players in the field will share and discuss their latest unpublished work with a broad and diverse audience composed of basic and clinical scientists from different disciplines as well as researchers from academia and industry. Ample time will be devoted to discuss the more than 100 poster contributions by scientists from all career levels. A considerable number of posters will be selected for oral presentation with a focus on showcasing the next generation of emerging leaders in the field. Collectively, we will transform Salve Regina University into an intense and stimulating angiogenesis think-tank to develop novel lines of research, to establish new collaborations, and to hunt for the next job. All working together, we will thereby ensure that this will not be JAM ("just another meeting"), but a scientifically, intellectually and socially challenging unique and rewarding conference.
