Abstract

The Banff International Research Station will host the " Nonlinear Geometric PDE-s" workshop in Banff from May 5, 2019 to May 10, 2019. This five-day workshop gathers researchers in the areas of geometric analysis and geometric and nonlinear partial differential equations, ranging from geometric variational problems, which are local in nature, such as the Yamabe problem, the prescribing Q-curvature problem, the fully non-linear sigma(k)-Yamabe problem, to non-local problems, like the fractional Yamabe problem and the fraction Yamabe flow. Of particular interest is the study of blow-up phenomena occurring on points or higher dimensional sets. Applications are intimately related for instance to theoretical physics (positive mass theorem in the theory of general relativity, Bose-Einstein condensates, Fluid-dynamics, Astrophysics), biology (pattern formations in reaction diffusion equations, diffusion process), material sciences. The Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) is a collaborative Canada-US-Mexico venture that provides an environment for creative interaction as well as the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and methods within the Mathematical Sciences, with related disciplines and with industry. The research station is located at The Banff Centre in Alberta and is supported by Canada-s Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alberta-s Advanced Education and Technology, and Mexico-s Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT).
