Abstract

The main theme of the 2016 Congress is Shaping Our Harmonious Worlds, a theme that highlights the ways an ancient oriental philosophy can guide today’s desires for harmony between humankind and nature, between environment and society, and for harmonious approaches to resolving the world’s conflicts and hazards. Under this theme, the Congress will organize discussions on hot topics; IGU commissions and task forces will hold thematic discussions on the most significant issues in their fields, with extensive exchanges of ideas. In addition to academic sessions and activities, we plan a rich variety of field excursions and local site visits that will enable Congress participants to appreciate some of the unique natural features and cultural traditions of this ancient and modern country.
