Abstract

Mathematical billiards are a fast growing field of the modern theory of dynamical systems and a deep source of insights, methods and examples in dynamics. It has greatly impacted many areas, ranging from integrable Hamiltonian systems and KAM theory, hyperbolic (chaotic) systems, to Teichm"uller dynamics. It has also stimulated much recent applied research in such areas of mathematical physics as equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics and quantum theory. The proposed workshop will bring together leading mathematicians, mathematical physicists, and younger researchers whose work is connected to the theory and applications of billiard dynamics from a variety of perspectives. Topics will include new modalities of billiard systems, with special attention given to applications to statistical physics such as, for example, the study of classical and quantum transport phenomena.
