Abstract

This popular one-day course is for clinicians who specialise in the management of thyroid disorders.  It is designed to teach very specific skills, namely how to perform thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration (FNA). The course is an initial step and integral part of the national training scheme for certification in the use of ultrasound in the management of thyroid diseases by non-radiologists. It complies with the curriculum for training and certification for neck ultrasound by non-radiologists, drawn up jointly by the British Thyroid Association and the Royal College of Radiologists. Topics covered include Principles of ultrasound, Level 1 ultrasound syllabus, How to scan the neck and normal anatomy, Hands-on session: the basics, Thyroid anatomy and lymph nodes, Hands-on session: anatomy and nodes, Recognising and understanding the US features of thyroid nodules, Diffuse thyroid disease, Hands-on session: patients, Criteria for thyroid FNA, Hands-on session: FNA, Interactive session questions. Who should attend? Specialist clinicians and trainees who manage thyroid diseases, particularly thyroid nodules, goiters and thyroid cancer.
