Abstract

exciting data and ideas amongst their peers. The personal nature of the GRS provides an environment in which the future leaders of vision research can abundantly connect and communicate in the absence of intimidation often associated with international scientific forums. Attendance at the GRS is a highly recommended prelude to the larger GRC for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists. The 2018 Visual System Development Gordon Research Seminar features a keynote from prominent vision neuroscientist and gene therapy pioneer Dr. John G. Flannery (University of California, Berkeley). The meeting will highlight emerging topics on the development, physiology and maintenance of the visual system in three sessions featuring a total of twelve speakers (to be chosen from submitted abstracts), and two 90-minute poster sessions. The meeting will also feature a panel discussion where leaders in the field will examine a range of topics with attendees. These dedicated formal and informal discussion sessions are designed to foster collaborations, build relationships in the field, and provide career advice at pivotal points in the careers of young investigators.
