Methods from probability theory and mathematical statistics are playing an increasingly important role in the analysis and explanation of phenomena in biological evolution, and conversely the latter continue to be a constant source of inspiration for the development of fascinating new probabilistic models. The CIRM 2018 conference on Probability and Biological Evolution will bring new progress in these synergistic activities. The themes of the meeting will be: evolution of structured populations in genetics and ecology; gene trees, species trees and the origins of biodiversity; random genealogies in interaction: selection, competition, recombination; viral and bacterial evolution; cancer modeling and tumor growth. The meeting will bring together distinguished experts at the interface of probability theory and evolutionary biology, and will fit in the "Year of Mathematical Biology 2018".
