Abstract

In continuation of the newly established seminar series, the second Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) will precede the Bacterial Cell Surfaces GRC. The GRS is a meeting run by junior investigators, for junior investigators. This seminar will bring together post-docs and graduate students in a stimulating yet relaxed environment, ideal for fostering future collaborations, networking with colleagues, and conceiving new research directions. Seminar attendees will be able to present their work to their peers in an intimate and unintimidating setting prior to the larger GRC meeting. Like the GRC, the GRS on Bacterial Cell Surfaces will cover expansive topics including plasma membrane processes; peptidoglycan synthesis; envelope maintenance, structure and function; protein transport and secretion mechanisms; macromolecular surface structures; and environmental and multicellular interactions. This wide range of content will allow for networking between researchers from broadly related fields in the context of the bacterial cell envelope. Participants are strongly encouraged to present posters at the GRC immediately following the GRS. The two outstanding speakers of the GRS will be invited to present during the main GRC.
