This FASEB Science Research Conference, the 14th in the series, showcases the most recent advances in our understanding of neuronal circuits responsible for retinal image processing. With its loyal following of accomplished and passionate scientists, it has evolved into one of the premier international meetings on retinal circuitry, development, and information coding. A broad range of concepts and approaches will be covered in platform talks featuring internationally recognized leaders in the field as well as junior faculty and advanced postdoctoral trainees. These will be grouped into thematic sessions, with topics including retinal direction selectivity; information processing at photoreceptor and bipolar-cell synapses; intrinsically photosensitive ganglion cells; retinal development; the structure and function of specific types of bipolar, amacrine and ganglion cells; and translational visual neurobiology, including stem cells and other regenerative approaches. Two workshops are planned, one devoted to recent advances in retinal imaging and the other to a career-development workshop for junior scientists.
