Abstract

The conference TRENDS Transition to Renewable Energy Devices and Systems takes up relevant topics in the area of the transformation of the energy system. The concept of the conference is to highlight Game Changers and to look into Missing Links in order to achieve the G8 goals of reducing 80 % of the CO2 emission by 2050 and realize a major share of renewable energies by 2030. This conference focuses on fuels for transportation and the respective technology in propulsion and auxiliary power provision. The interaction of these two threads will be emphasized. On the fuel side a realistic quantitative assessment of the potential of alternative fuels and their production paths will be discussed as well as the cost issues associated with the transformation.
